The short answer: no

You do not need access to your old website to replace it. Not the login, not the file, not a good relationship with whoever built it. A rebuild works from what's visible on the live site right now, plus what you tell us about the business.

What a rebuild actually needs

Two things: the live site, and you.

The live site. Every page, photo, and word a visitor can see today is available to rebuild from, whether or not you can log into anything behind it.

You. The details a visitor can't see on the page: what's changed since the site was built, what you'd fix if you could, what you actually want the new site to say.

What it doesn't need

Logins to the old hosting account. Access to the old file system or content management tool. Cooperation from the old designer or developer. None of these are required. A site built five years ago by someone who's since gone out of business, stopped answering emails, or simply moved on is still fully replaceable.

What if I can't log in to my own site?

That's fine. A rebuild works from what's visible on the live site, the same starting point as anyone else's rebuild. You don't need the old login to get started.

What if the site is down entirely?

This one is genuinely harder, and we won't pretend otherwise. Surmado can't recreate pages that are gone and were never archived anywhere. If nothing is live to look at, there's less to rebuild from directly. Talk to us. Will I lose my Google rankings?

Not if the move is done carefully. URL preservation and redirects from your old addresses to your new ones are part of the QA process on every rebuild, specifically so search rankings carry over instead of resetting.

What about my photos and text?

Anything visible on the live site comes along in the rebuild. If you happen to have the original photo files or a document with your original wording, they're welcome and often higher quality than what we can pull off the page, but they're not required.
