There are a lot of ways to get a website now. Agencies, templates, AI builders that turn a prompt into a homepage in an afternoon. Most of them produce something that looks fine on launch day.
Launch day is the easy part.
Then the SSL certificate expires. A plugin update breaks the booking form. Two critical PHP flaws drop on a Wednesday and every WordPress site on a vulnerable PHP version needs patching, including yours, which nobody told you about. You change your hours and the site still says the old ones. The builder you used wants you to open GitHub, re-run the AI, and figure out why the page is blank. It’s 2 am and you’re reading JavaScript errors.
That’s the part nobody puts in the sales pitch. Building the site is a project. Running it is a job, and it doesn’t end.
A builder hands you a website. Surmado takes responsibility for it.
What Surmado actually does
Surmado Sites is a website with Scout behind it.
Scout keeps the site secure and up to date. It handles DNS, certificates, deployments, backups, and the integrations that quietly break when a vendor changes something. When you want an edit, you ask, and the change goes live after a human checks it. When something breaks, you tell Scout or Scout catches it on its rounds, and it gets fixed. Either way it isn’t your 2 am.
You don’t manage a GitHub account. You don’t maintain your own AI subscriptions. Nobody asks you what a deployment is.
You stay in charge of the website. Surmado stays in charge of keeping it working.
Why that matters
The optometrist doesn’t care about frameworks, repositories, or which AI wrote the code. They care that the site works, patients can find them, and changes happen when they ask.
That’s the standard. Not “did it get built” but “does it keep working, year after year, without pulling the owner away from the business.”
Over time that responsibility grows past the website: to leads, customer relationships, marketing, and the day-to-day work of running the business. The website is where it starts.
Others can build it. Surmado runs it. The rebuild is free, you approve it before paying anything, and the membership covers the part that never ends.
