CookieYes is a good product and the pricing is genuinely competitive on the surface. Free to 5,000 pageviews a month, then Basic at $10 per domain, Pro at $25, Ultimate at $55 unlimited. Annual billing takes off about 16.67%.
The reasons people leave are almost always about the shape of that pricing rather than the software.
Why businesses leave CookieYes
Geo-targeting is on Pro, not Basic. This is the big one. Plenty of people buy the $10 Basic plan specifically to show EU visitors a proper opt-in banner, then find that region-specific behavior starts at $25. If geo is why you bought it, your actual price is $25 a month, and at that number the comparison against everything else changes completely.
Pageview overages. Basic covers 100,000 pageviews a month and Pro covers 300,000, with $0.30 per additional 1,000 beyond that. A traffic spike, a campaign, or a post that does well turns a fixed cost into a variable one. Some businesses would rather pay more and stop thinking about it.
Per-domain pricing. Every domain needs its own subscription, with no multi-site bundle. Run four sites on Basic and you’re at $40 a month for a banner. This is the same complaint people have about Termly and Cookiebot, so it’s worth checking whether an alternative actually fixes it before switching.
The consent layer is one more thing to maintain. Quieter, but common. The tool works; the problem is that it’s a fifth subscription attached to a website that already needed attention.

Geo-detection with region-specific banners is in Premium, not a higher tier. There are no pageview limits, because it runs inside your own install rather than metering through a hosted service, so a traffic spike costs you nothing extra. And the five-site plan at $179 a year genuinely fixes per-domain pricing rather than restating it.
The free version is usable too: single-site banner, cookie scanning, and a policy generator. Over a million active installations.
The tradeoff is that a self-hosted plugin is yours to maintain. Complianz’s own documentation says the administrator remains responsible for configuring it correctly, and you’ll want to verify it still works after major updates. That’s the real price of $59 a year.

Termly: if you need the documents too
Termly is $15 per website per month billed annually, $20 monthly. Against CookieYes Pro at $25, it’s cheaper for a comparable feature set, and it includes something CookieYes doesn’t match: a full legal document generator producing privacy policies, cookie policies, terms, and disclaimers that update as regulations change.
You also get weekly cookie scans, script auto-blocking, a preference center, consent records, DSAR forms, Google Consent Mode v2, and unlimited banner views, which sidesteps the pageview overage problem entirely.
It doesn’t fix per-domain pricing. Four sites is $60 a month.
Switch to Termly if: you were heading for CookieYes Pro anyway and would use the legal documents.
Cookiebot: different pricing shape
Cookiebot prices by subpage count per domain rather than pageviews. Free up to 50 subpages, then $8 a month for Premium Lite (to 50 subpages), $16 Small (to 350), $34 Medium (to 3,500), $56 Large (to 7,000), and $96 XLarge above that, per domain. Euro pricing runs roughly €7/€15/€30/€50/€90.
That model helps if you have a small site with heavy traffic, since traffic doesn’t factor in at all, and hurts if you have a large content site with modest traffic. Worth doing the arithmetic on your own numbers rather than assuming.
Its scanner is the strongest of the group, which matters if part of your problem is not knowing what’s on the site. Two cautions: every domain is a separate subscription with no volume discount, and in August 2025 Cookiebot moved accounts holding one to three Premium Small domains up to Premium Medium, so a single-site owner pays more than older comparisons suggest. Accounts with four or more domains kept Small.
Switch to Cookiebot if: you’re low-traffic with many pages, or discovery is the actual problem.
Surmado Pro+: if the subscription itself is the complaint
